Hi Riddhi, you have so beautifully written it. I also have the same emotion, especially when i am outside and I have to use all the cutlery. I could completely relate to the licking of fingers after cheetos, kurkure. I remember the joy of bourbon biscuits separating cream from biscuits. Loved reading it:)

Thank you Apurva! Yesss, I remember having bourbon and Jim Jam biscuits like that too! It was such a joy.

This is beautifully written; you’ve perfectly captured the shift from viewing the hand as a mere tool to realizing it is an organ of perception. 😍

What you experienced is actually a foundational principle of Ayurveda, where eating with your hands is a sacred ritual.

Each finger represents one of the five cosmic elements (Fire, Air, Space, Earth, Water), and bringing them together forms a Mudra that awakens your digestive fire. While a cold spoon acts as an insulator that blindfolds your gut, your fingertips create an immediate bio-feedback loop—the moment they feel the temperature of the dal or the slippery texture of the mango, they signal your stomach to release the exact digestive enzymes needed for that specific bite.

You've beautifully articulated what ancient science has always known: digestion begins the exact moment the food stains your skin.

I was just reading about this yesterday! Eating with our hands also forces us into naturally smaller bites which are easier to chew and in turn lead to much better digestion. It's such an amazing concept. Thank you so much for sharing! 💖

If you can write this vividly about eating with your hands, I wouldn't be surprised to one day see a novel by Riddhi Tanna in the fiction section of a bookstore; with the most intriguing plot line and the most vivid characters. I'll be waiting for that day. :D

Already a part of this community 😬

There is something so liberating about having mangoes on the side of my plate. It feels like an invitation to go all in with my fingers and fully commit to the meal.

For me, setting the spoons and forks aside always brings back memories, and I am all in for little episodes of nostalgia wherever I can find them.

Thank you so much for writing about it, Riddhi :)

Your letters always leave me hungry, irrespective of how full I am when I stumble upon your words hahaha.

I love this reflection! There is something really grounding about eating with ours hands, almost like walking barefoot in the grass.

Absolutely agree with you! It is very grounding.
